Social networking is not limited to the time-consuming antics children on Facebook, and Friendster. A new website aims to Turn Business Networking on its head.
A prime example of the principle of all social networking sites is simply a play on the six-degrees-of-separation meme: If everyone just a few friends away from everyone else, that girls like you - is just an email - or your future boss - mail away. Tracked.com developed this concept in the data analysis, hopes to create a strange hybrid, the company, transforming how business will be done.
Want to see other companies widget manufacturers to invest or stay in the trades on the performance of your company? Curious traded on the stock, the Executive Board only? The website allows you to activity in a specific industry or for a particular company, even for a specific person, and add your own feeds of data in the same direction.
On Tracked.com 's heart is a massive database of information about public and private companies, including news, financial data, executive compensation, and more - the type of data you would find on sites like Yahoo, TechCrunch, Google or Finance.
It is not obvious where all these data, especially the vast amounts of information on private companies is Tracked.com offers. TechCrunch founder Michael Yavonditte told that he "begged, borrowed and stole" the data of other structured data sources and mashed it together.
But the data sources themselves are less interesting than what you do with it all.
Tracked lists not only business performance, but people who work there as well. Drill down to Microsoft, for example, and you will see the Board of Directors, founder Bill Gates and Paul Allen, and a long list of key personnel such as Vice President and product manager. Other sites will not tell you that Microsoft's Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie is 53 years old, shared his recent share trading (as expected, crafts Ozzie Microsoft), or view stories in the news about him.
The web site you can also pass along the "objects" such as prices, charts, public filings and people with your connections.
The true value of a social networking site is located in the user base, of course, it captures the most important obstacle is gaining market share in a crowded market.
But for people looking for more in a social networking site as a place where they can stay in touch with old friends and posttheir latest baby pictures is recorded literally in the business.
